PILOT PROJECT : TOWN OF ROCKLAND

Our first project is the design and construction of a two-family building in the Town of Rockland, NY. We’ve been working with the Town’s planning department to develop a concept that will fit well with the landscape, climate, and needs of the town, and this is what we’ve come up with so far:

• A duplex rental home, with two 2-bedroom, 1 bath apartments

• Timber frame structure with structural insulated panels (SIPS)

• Highly efficient, all-electric and easy to heat/cool year-round

• Flood resilient, with 4’ high post foundation

The building will be solid, sustainable, and will be built to house local families affordably for a century or more. As we plan and build, our priorities will be:

• LOCAL SKILLS & LABOR : Work with and train local construction talent and workforce programs

• LOCAL RESOURCES: Purchase locally-harvested timber

• LOCAL ECONOMY : Work with small businesses and distributors (no box stores)

• CLIMATE : Reducing carbon while also managing our new climate reality
